HERE AND HELP UNITED ARTISANS OF BANGLADESH
BaSE stands
for Bangladesh Shilpo Ekota, which means United Artisans of
Bangladesh.
We started using this name in 1992, but we are older than that.
Some of us started this activity in 1975; some groups are younger.
But since the beginning we have tried to help each other, coordinating
our activity, meeting to analyze and solve common problems, and sharing
exporting facilities.
The about 10.000 persons involved in our handicrafts activities live and
work in the Khulna area, in the South West of Bangladesh.
Since 1977 we have been regularly selling our products to some Italian
organizations, exporting directly through Mongla Port (42 km South of
Khulna City), although each group is free to keep contact with various
different buyers through other organizations.
In 1992 we had the chance to print our catalogue thanks to the specific
contribution of Sir Jhon Ltd., our first buyer in Italy based in Morbegno.
Now we are given the opportunity to present the variety of our products
directly on the web thanks to the Rotarians of Sondrio, Credito Valtellinese
and Banca Popolare di Sondrio.
The link with Valtellina, started with the presence among us of Fr. Giovanni
Abbiati from Sondrio, is getting stronger year after year!
